January 17, 2006, Kingston, Ontario – Doug Hogeboom, President and CEO of Empire Financial Group, presented a cheque for $60,000 to the Kingston Hospitals Joint Advancement Foundation (KHJA Foundation) earlier today. The donation marked the first major gift to the newly formed foundation.

"Empire is committed to supporting healthcare in Kingston, so we are delighted to see our hospitals now working together to raise funds," says Hogeboom. "We all know people – friends or family members – who have been a patient in one of Kingston’s hospitals, so it only makes sense for us to give a gift that can be shared for the benefit of everyone in our community." Empire’s donation will be used to purchase patient care equipment urgently needed by the partner hospitals.

The KHJA Foundation raises funds to support the equipment, patient care, education and research needs of Kingston hospitals. Hotel Dieu Hospital, Providence Continuing Care Centre, Kingston General Hospital and the Cancer Centre work together to provide highly specialized and compassionate care to more than 500,000 people in Southeastern Ontario.
