In 1954, Blue Shield of California Life & Health Insurance Company Blue Shield Life, formerly CPIC Life Insurance Company, was formed as a California corporation to provide a full range of insurance benefit options for Blue Shield of California group and individual or family members. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Blue Shield of California.
Blue Shield Life has grown by offering competitive group and individual term life, accidental death & dismemberment, vision and stop loss in tandem with Blue Shield of California health plans or on a stand-alone basis. In the late 1980s, two short term health products, Option One and Option Twelve, were launched and both policies remain among the leading products of their kind in California.
For over 50 years, Blue Shield of California Life & Health Insurance Company Blue Shield Life has met the life insurance needs of small businesses across California. By choosing their trusted life coverage, your organization demonstrates a dedication to high standards, and a commitment to your valued employees.
Life Standard combines life insurance coverage with one of the most comprehensive AD&D benefits in the industry. It is available only to groups purchasing medical insurance from Blue Shield of California. All employees within the group are eligible for Life Standard coverage, even if the group has multiple medical carriers.
Life plus is available to groups requesting higher coverage amounts and customization of standard features. It is available to all groups, with or without purchase of medical insurance from Blue Shield of California or Blue Shield Life.
Groups seeking additional coverage can purchase supplemental coverage from Blue Shield Life. The purchase of group life is required before purchasing supplemental life. The purchase of AD&D is required before purchasing supplemental AD&D. The portability provision is automatically included for supplemental life and AD&D.
Blue Shield Life is in an ideal position to serve groups with Blue Shield health plans. Their shared customers benefit from one-source account management, billing and customer support. They are also happy to serve employer groups who select their products independently, with account management provided by Blue Shield Life.
