Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada U.S. has signed a definitive agreement to sell Massachusetts Casualty Insurance Company, MCIC, to Centre Solutions, a member of Zurich Financial Services. The transaction is subject to approval by state regulators.
MCIC, which was acquired by Sun Life in 1987, is focused primarily on individual disability income insurance, a business that Sun Life has decided is no longer part of its long term strategic plans. With the divestiture, Sun Life is pursuing a strategy of focusing on its core financial services businesses in the U.S. including a wide range of individual and group products, pensions and annuities, investment management services and a major theyalth management business which includes MFS Investment Management.
Worldwide, Sun Life is a diversified global financial services company with total assets under management of Cdn. 222 billion dollars, a surplus of Cdn. 5 billion dollars and with operations in Canada, the U.S., the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Indonesia and Bermuda.
