He is an Associate Professor of Surgery in Residence; The Department of Surgery residency training program consists of approximately 87 clinical residents and 14 research residents. He offers approximately 22 first year and 18 second year postdoctoral positions. Approximately 15 positions are in combination with postdoctoral training in orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, oral surgery, otolaryngology, plastic surgery and urology to serve as a base for his specialties.
The goal of the surgical residency program is to prepare residents to become safe, qualified and board certified surgical practitioners and to be the teachers and future leaders in surgery. A review of graduates from the past 30 years indicates that greater than 80percent continue in fellowship programs and almost half become surgical academicians associated with university departments of surgery.
He prepare residents for any career they choose by teaching them on services from all of the divisions of general surgery Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary and Colorectal Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Transplantation, Trauma and Endocrine Surgery and exposing them to the surgical specialties ENT, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Urology as well as Critical Care and Anesthesia.
