KANE, ROBERT; MD

Kane Robert has done M.D. in Preventive Medicine, Harvard Medical School in 1965 A.B. and Columbia College in 1961. Robert Kane currently holds an endowed chair in long term Care and Aging, directs the Center on Aging and the Minnesota Geriatric Education Center and co directs University’s Clinical Outcomes Research Center. He was the Dean of the University of Minnesota School of Public Health since 1985-1990. He has conducted several research studies on both the outcome of clinical care and the organization of care with special attention to the care of older persons, especially those needing long term care. He currently directs an evidence based practice center.
He is the author or editor of more than twenty books and two hundred fifty journal articles and book chapters on health services research and geriatrics. He serves on the World Health Organizations’ Expert Committee on Aging. His current research addresses the outcomes of acute and long term care, especially the effects of hospital and post hospital care and better ways to deliver chronic care. He has received the President’s Award from the American Society on Aging and the Polisher Award from the Gerontological Society of America.
