Chris E. Freise, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in Residence. Chris Friese joined the UCSF, University of California San Francisco faculty in 1996. He trained at the University of Minnesota and completed a fellowship in transplant surgery at UCSF. His research is focused on the immunosuppressive drugs used in transplantation and on local immunosuppression. His work is recognized and funded by the NIH, National Institutes of Health and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons Sandoz Fellowship. He also teaches UCSF medical students and residents in transplantation surgery. He holds American Board of Surgery, 1995 Certification.

Chris E. Freise has completed two active projects including phase II or III clinical trial of the hepatassist liver assist system and evaluation of feasibility of local immunosuppression.

All these projects are being supported by a grant from the American College of Surgeons as well as a Hefni Research Fellowship. The project has the potential to be adopted to a larger animal system and grant writing for NIH support which is anticipated. They serve their clients with foreign languages like Spanish and Italian.
