Rodney O. Martin Aig's Jr. Chief Operating Officer Of Worldwide Life Insurance Business
NEW YORK, Jan 23, 2006 -- American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has named Rodney O. Martin, Jr. Chief Operating Officer of AIG's worldwide life insurance business. Mr. Martin, 53, will remain Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of AIG American General Life Companies and AIG Executive Vice President, Life Insurance, reporting to Edmund S.W. Tse, AIG Senior Vice Chairman, Life Insurance. In his new position, Mr. Martin will work closely with Mr. Tse, focusing on the growth and expansion of AIG's life insurance business around the world.
Mr. Martin was elected AIG Executive Vice President, Life Insurance in 2002. He was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the AIG American General Life Companies following AIG's acquisition of American General Corporation in 2001. Prior to that, Mr. Martin had served as Senior Vice Chairman, Financial Services, responsible for American General's life insurance and consumer lending operations. He joined American General as President and Chief Executive Officer of American General Life Insurance Company of New York in 1995. Earlier, Mr. Martin spent 20 years in the life insurance business in marketing and general management roles.
Commenting on Mr. Martin's new appointment, Martin J. Sullivan, AIG President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "Rod Martin has been a key executive in the development and management of AIG's domestic life insurance business since our acquisition of American General. In the United States, AIG American General is the leading life operation, while overseas AIG's life network is the most extensive of any insurance organization. This new role recognizes Rod's in-depth knowledge of the life insurance business, as well as his strong leadership and management skills. Working with Edmund Tse, Rod will provide seasoned and skilled leadership for our worldwide life business."
