Harry Hollander, MD TSP 2000 to 2001 is Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases. Since 1995 he has been the director of the categorical internal medicine training program and served as the ACGME program director for entire UCSF medicine residency, which now numbers 165 trainees. He is an active member of the UCSF hospitality group, and co edited Hospital Medicine, a new text for the field, which was published in 2000. He retains a primary care and consultative practice for individuals infected with HIV and continues to serve as an inpatient infectious disease consultant. Prior to coming to UCSF as a resident, he received his MD degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

His curriculum is unique and fashioned to give graduate students fluency in the principles of tissue and organ architecture, development, and function. In all cases, this is done in the context of the underlying basic biology. Formal coursework provides a foundation in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Macromolecular Structure & Function, and Cell Biology. In addition, a two quarter course covers Tissue and Organ Biology, including an introduction to tissue architecture in a laboratory setting that allows students to become familiar with normal and disease states in both experimental animal models, and humans themselves.
