Dr. Aric B. Ludwig received his medical degree from Saint Louis University in 1974. He completed an internship at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, Calif., in 1975 and a residency in Family Practice from 1977 to 1979 at Natividad General Hospital, a part of the University of California San Francisco's training program in Salinas, Calif. Dr. Ludwig is board certified in Emergency Medicine.
 
Dr. Ludwig is certified in tropical and travel medicine, and has also done work and completed specialized training in wilderness medicine. He was involved in medical volunteer work in Guatemala, Pakistan and Nepal. In Nepal, he ran a high altitude medical clinic at the base of Mt. Everest. Currently he is one of three doctors supervising the use of the hyperberic chamber at Bartlett for medical emergencies.
 
The doctor was working in hospital emergency rooms in San Francisco when he began coming to Juneau to fish and enjoy sea kayaking in the early 1980s. When the opportunity to become a permanent part of the Juneau community became available in 1990, he made the move to Bartlett.
 
He sponsors the Southeast Alaska Regional Emergency Medical Technicians, as well as EMTs in other outlying communities. He is a member of the Wilderness Medical Society, the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Alaska Medical Association. Dr. Ludwig's hobbies include sea kayaking, fishing and skiing. He and his partner Susan Hunt have two children, Katya and Anya.
